We care deeply about our people, our clients, and society at large. We take responsibility for having a positive impact on the world and we constantly challenge ourselves and others to develop sustainable solutions to local and global issues. We feel the urgency and are committed to accelerating the measurable benefits we deliver.
We act with integrity and transparency and hold ourselves to the highest standards of environmental and social governance. We are diverse and inclusive. We will not compromise the safety or well-being of our team or communities – no matter the circumstances.
We actively collaborate with clients, partners and stakeholders in projects and initiatives, together. Our actions, big and small, will drive the positive change the world needs, and will enhance society now and for the future.
Delivering on our purpose of Enhancing Society Together is a strategic priority. We focus on five themes where we believe we can have the biggest impact in delivering benefits for society and the environment.
These themes are relevant to everything we do – for our people and our clients, the way we operate as an organisation, and how we implement our projects. They will also underpin reporting on our impact and progress, and relate to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2022 we will be assessing the nature of positive change we are delivering through our projects on our five themes. The blue outlined area on this chart is for illustrative purposes only.
Enhancing Society Together will become more relevant in the decisions we make about which projects to pursue. This is an evolution in our principles and will require greater transparency on how particular projects align with our purpose.
Clearly and transparently demonstrating where we are delivering positive impact – whether in relative or increasingly in absolute terms – is key to supporting delivery of our purpose.

“This approach applies across the scale and types of projects in our global portfolio and will ensure we identify where and how we bring benefit, and critically where we still have more to do. Important in this is being transparent also in how our decisions are informed by our purpose, the outcomes we strive to achieve, and being accountable for their impact as we support our clients through a just transition to a truly sustainable future,” Matthew Hunt adds.
Examples of positive impact obtained through our projects
To guide conversations, decision-making and our approach to project delivery, we have launched a Purpose Matrix. The matrix is a reference to easily define whether a proposed project will have a negative, neutral, positive or very positive impact against each theme. For example, from ‘no reduction in greenhouse gas emissions’ to ‘significant carbon reductions consistent with net zero’, and towards ‘active measure to of social value’.
In 2022, a system came into place to qualify the scale and nature of the positive change we are delivering through our projects against each theme. This measurement system will look at each project in the broadest sense, ensuring we are clear on where the balance lies between positive and adverse impact.
