Key to our vision is the promise of Enhancing Society Together. Our ambition is to achieve fact-based and recognised leadership in sustainable development and innovation in our markets. This is where we have the largest impact, where we can apply our expertise to influence decision making, and make a difference for sustainable development in our value chain. We achieve this by applying our knowledge and experience in client assignments to address the client’s needs today and in the future.
Our 4 Questions for sustainable growth
To walk-the-talk and embed Enhancing Society Together in our daily practice, we ask 4 Questions in every project to keep our focus on sustainable growth:
- Does the output meet the requirements of most stakeholders involved?
- Does the output serve added value for the client and society as a whole?
- Is the result lasting, thus is it future proof?
- Can we meet the client’s demand while minimising the use of natural resources and energy?
By asking these four simple questions, we go beyond the original brief and encourage our clients to join us in identifying how we can do things better and more sustainable, for their benefit and for society.

Our vision incorporates the Sustainable Development Goals which many of our customers and stakeholders are incorporating into their business conduct. We are also guided by agreements reached at the Paris Climate Change Conference, and joined 39 companies to call on the Dutch government to draw up a Climate Act to meet the objectives of the agreement. Taking a wider perspective provides us with the inspiration to be ambitious and innovative in creating a positive impact in collaboration with our internal and external stakeholders.
Corporate Responsibility in the Annual ReportOur commitment to integrating corporate responsibility (CR) and sustainability into all our business activities, and the progress we have made during 2016, is described in Royal HaskoningDHV’s Annual Report.

Global leader in sustainable developmentRoyal HaskoningDHV is taking the lead in sustainable development. We are doing so because we have the expertise, technology and experience to make a positive difference for our clients and the global challenges of society.
We also have the opportunity. We are integrating new ideas and sustainability into international engineering assignments for our clients. Examples include our Nereda® water treatment technology, nature-driven design, energy producing buildings, green airports, initiatives to develop a circular economy and much more. Both sustainability and innovation are key.
At the same time, we are moving towards sustainable operations within our own organisation, aiming to reduce our ecological footprint. We are also identifying where we can use our knowledge to give back to society, donating not only money but our time and expertise.
Our CSR Performance
EcoVadis grants Gold Recognition on Corporate Social Responsibility
EcoVadis assessed our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices and granted Royal HaskoningDHV the gold label and listed the company in the top 5% performers - within the category Architectural and engineering firms and top 2% overall CSR performance in all categories. The global supply chain & purchasing index is highly valued in the industry.
CSR and Integrity are becoming a more and more part of the procurement procedures of multinationals and governmental agencies, as a consequence of new national and international policies partly driven by external guidelines and legislation (e.g. UN Global Compact, UK Bribery Act). EcoVadis verifies Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) information of companies and institutions and enables CSR dialogue which is based on reliable information.
The gold label covers international standards on Sustainable Development like ISO 26000, UN Global Compact and Global Reporting Standards (GRI table). The assessment includes environment, labour practices & human rights, fair business practices, anti-corruption and sustainable procurement. We value these subjects highly and integrated these in our business processes. We are proud that this is recognised by EcoVadis with a Gold label.

Memberships, certificates and registrations
UN Global CompactThe United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Royal HaskoningDHV has been a UN Global Compact participant since 2008 and supports and applies the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
How we embed the Ten Principles into our strategies and operations as well as efforts to support societal priorities, can be viewed in our annual Communication on Progress.

Our Corporate management system includes Quality, Health, Safety and Environment management and Corporate Responsibility management. We are certified for the following norms and standards. Royal HaskoningDHV supports a number of good causes through sponsorship. Our particular areas of interest are activities relating to the transfer of our knowledge and major challenges in our own field of operations, for example the global water shortage. We also support student organisations with connections to our own professional disciplines.
