New corn starch factory to meet demand across South East Asia

A new greenfield factory for our client, a global food corporation, will produce raw materials for starch and sweetener products to meet growing demand from food, industrial and feed markets across South East Asia.
Corn starch factory
The plant, which incorporates a corn wet mill and starch dryer, is designed to grind 1,200 metric tons of clean corn daily. Its main product, corn starch slurry, will be used as a raw material for an existing sweetener plant, adjacent to the new facility. It will enable our client to produce corn-based equivalents of existing sweeteners and add corn starch and other corn based products to its portfolio.

The factory occupies around 7.5 hectares and includes production and supporting facilities, such as warehouses, utilities and infrastructure.

Process engineering team supports client in design and specifications

Our client is designing the plant process and has contracted the Royal HaskoningDHV process engineering team to assist in updating the piping and instrumentation diagram, line and equipment lists, as well as various other tasks. For example, we are undertaking the hydraulic calculations for the flow of liquid through the pipes and sizing the line. We are also advising on the process utility arrangement and tie ins, and designing the instrumentation control system in the plant’s architecture.

We are working on specifications for the pump installation works, instrument control system and piping - including material, insulation, pipe stress and pipe support. The In-Out list, detailing communication between information processing systems, is a key deliverable for the control system and instrumentation discipline. Our piping experts are developing the plot plan and equipment layout, as well as 3D modelling of the piping plan. We are generating the detailed information required to guide fabrication and construction and producing the wiring diagram, hook up and the bill of quantities.
Our multi-disciplinary team enables all requirements to be integrated into the design solution to optimise the site processes and ensure smooth construction and operations.
