Working in partnership with the client on a strategic and operational level

The challenge

Working in partnership on a strategic and operational level, we have provided multi-disciplinary expertise through on-site teams to help realise its plans. Our long association with the pharmaceutical company dates back to 2007 and, since 2011, has included on-site teams of 25-80 people to handle engineering and consultancy activities on two major production sites in the Netherlands. Alongside day-to-day issues and regulatory change, we handle projects of all sizes up to €60 million and more.

The solution

Site adaptations linked to corporate strategy

The organisation’s strategy to streamline business activities within countries and the constant need to meet local regulations have led to significant site modifications across production buildings, offices, laboratories, clean rooms and utility buildings (black and clean). We have assisted in all these areas, drawing on our in-house expertise in permitting and across all engineering disciplines. Our specialist knowledge in GxP guidelines and environmental regulations, compliancy, safety, contamination control, energy efficiency and more provides additional value.

We handle around 50 projects per year which have included: adapting production buildings and clean rooms (up to BSL3 and grade A); installing new purified water systems; upgrading security, fire alarm and evacuation systems; improving the sewerage system; upgrade of power systems and ensuring HVAC systems meet new requirements for amongst others dust collection.

The result

In-depth knowledge and site presence

We have helped to guide and structure our client’s industrial development plan through our strategic asset management services. The plan integrates the needs of business units, taking account of the existing infrastructure and real estate possibilities. For investment projects, our input begins with business case development and master planning. It continues through design and permitting, procurement and construction management to commissioning and hand-over, while overseeing safety and regulatory protocols.
