Design Jotun’s first LEED certified distribution and office building in Indonesia

The Rajawali Project Phase 2 is based in Bekasi’s, an industrial area east of Jakarta in Indonesia. The project resulted in our client Jotun being awarded their first LEED Certification. The certificate was provided by US Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) in January 2016, and represents the most internationally recognized sustainability rating system.

Designed and build according to LEED standards

Rajawali project phase 2 is a new building project with a site area of about 55,000 m2 and 20,000 m2 Gross Floor Area designed and built according to LEED standards. From the conceptual designs up to the hand-over date, Royal HaskoningDHV was the design consultant (full-package Architectural, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical), construction manager, HSE as well as LEED consultant to Jotun Indonesia.

LEED is a sustainability certification system which has been developed in the USA and stands for ‘Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design’ developed by the US Green Building Council and administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). GBCI verifies that projects perform according to targeted sustainability requirements. After several independent reviews performed by GBCI, it awarded Rajawali project phase 2 a LEED Certified certificate.

Optimised to exceed performance

Royal HaskoningDHV provided detailed building performance simulations (to optimise building energy performance) and daylight simulations (to optimise natural daylight penetration). At an early design stage the architectural design was reviewed by our building physics experts, to evaluate building physical performances. In order to manage the ecology (e.g. potable water reduction, rainwater and greywater network and landscape design) our technical experts also got involved. With commissioning management according to ANSI Ashrae standards we ensured quality of design and construction works to meet quality and performance as desired by Jotun.

World's leading manufacturers

Jotun is one of the world's leading manufacturers of decorative paints, marine, protective and powder coatings. The group has 65 companies and 37 production facilities on all continents and is represented in more than 100 countries around the world with about 10.000 employees. Beside Jotun’s ambitions to enhance its real-estates sustainable footprint, Jotun is also pro-actively involved in enhancing products (e.g. LEED-certified coatings, paints).

Local expertise, international best practices

Bekasi has 1.6 million inhabitants, however thousands of people visit Bekasi for work every day, and is the largest commuter town in the area. Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in a range of sustainability projects in Bekasi including a L’Oréal Skin and Haircare Facility.

By bringing our local expertise combined with international best practices, and training local parties to find common ground together, Royal HaskoningDHV was pivotal in obtaining the LEED Certification. An achievement we are proud of.
