Hans de Wit awarded Design Engineer of the Year

The ‘Design Engineer of the Year' award is made possible by a partnership of VN constructeurs, KPE group, Hoger Technisch Instituut and Building Holland. This industry leading award recognizes Hans' outstanding contribution to the world of engineering, cementing his role as the leading professional when it comes to tunnels, overpasses, and complex underground constructions. With his unparalleled expertise, he has delivered safe, sustainable, and outstanding designs that not only impress aesthetically, but also set the bar in the tunnel industry. Renowned in the tunnel sector, Hans is involved in numerous tunnel projects all over the world, including the largest tunnel project to date: The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link in Denmark.

From local projects such as the North-South metro line in Amsterdam to major international projects like the Hong Kong - Zhuhai – Macau Bridge and beyond, Hans’ projects connect communities, improve accessibility, and create lasting legacies with improved liveability.

Hans’ dedication to his field and his relentless drive to overcome complex challenges make him truly an inspiration to all of us. His ability to develop and implement innovative tunnelling solutions has led to the successful completion of multiple tunnel projects that will stand the test of time. As Managing Director of TEC, Hans has played an important role in the development of the company. He is a firm believer in collaboration and co-creation, spurring his team and those around him to greater heights.

Throughout his career, Hans has demonstrated that he goes above and beyond to ensure that each member of his project teams feel part of the collective whole. Hans is a frequent contributor to conferences, sharing insights into new innovative techniques and processes which inspires not only his peers, but also future design engineers with thought-provoking lectures at TU Delft. The jury called Hans ‘An inspiration and ambassador for craftsmanship’ – a title we think is well deserved.
