Europe as a fossil-free continent: developing innovative vocational education for the transition to sustainable energy

CoVE SEED aims to develop innovative vocational education and training, working with experts from five different European regions to phase out fossil fuels and contributing to Europe becoming a fossil-free energy continent. SEED is a CoVE (Centres of Vocational Excellence) programme. CoVE’s are part of the Erasmus+ programme aiming to establish transnational platforms on, among others, regional development, innovation and inclusion.

We are involved in updating digital skill frameworks for industry, building a framework for energy skills, updating (public) training materials for the Energy Academy to facilitate lifelong learning and creating an overview of the content, and performing related communication campaigns conducted annually by us.

Strategic alignment of skills

The challenge we face is the imperative need for intelligent solutions in the energy transition for our cities. As Europe aims to become a fossil-free continent, the demand for professionals with digital and green skills is escalating. The evolving nature of challenges in sustainable energy transition requires a strategic alignment of skills to address the pressing issues effectively.

CoVE SEED is our innovative response to this challenge. This project is dedicated to developing vocational education that empowers individuals to contribute significantly to the transition to sustainable energy.

Our focus lies in:

  • Investing in essential skills: prioritizing and investing in skills crucial for a successful energy transition.
  • Knowledge exchange and best practices: connecting current issues and capturing best practices in participating regions. Through knowledge exchange, we develop strategic priorities aligned with regional needs.
  • Broad stakeholder participation: fostering a common interest in sustainable energy education by encouraging participation from diverse stakeholders. This includes partners and non-partners in various events, such as workshops and conferences, to enhance legitimacy and shared engagement.

SEED Conference 2024

SEED International Conference on Sustainable Energy Education, July 3-5, 2024 – Valencia, Spain

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming International Conference on Sustainable Energy Education (SEED), set to take place in the city of Valencia, Spain, from July 3-5, 2024. This event will be hosted by the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV); SEED 2024 is a platform for professionals from academia, industry, and various organisations to share knowledge, network, and collaborate towards a unified vision for Sustainable Energy EDucation across Europe.

During this conference, our team will present a whitepaper on our way of working concerning knowledge sharing and host a workshop with our vision on sustainable energy education development. Our critical question is how to facilitate the workforce's growth and adaptation within the changing landscape, potentially through social innovation and lifelong learning strategies.

For any inquiries, feel free to contact our project manager Fionna Heuff or check out the website SEED Conference 2024.

International learning community

SEED results in an international learning community, with shared standards, approaches, tools, experiences and lessons learned to achieve excellence in vocational education on sustainable energy. SEED establishes five centers of vocational excellence, one in each region (The Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Germany and Greece). This project has received funding from the European Union’s EACEA.A - Erasmus+, EU Solidarity Corps under grant agreement No 101056147.

SEED aims to yield tangible results in the form of a skilled workforce ready to tackle sustainable energy challenges. By aligning education with real-world needs, capturing best practices, and fostering collaboration, we anticipate a significant positive impact on the European journey toward becoming a fossil-free continent.

We work together with our partners EarthValley (ROM Utrecht region) and Hogeschool Utrecht in the project.
