Royal HaskoningDHV signed an agreement with buildingSMART Benelux to join the buildingSMART Professional Certification programme. By integrating the curriculum of buildingSMART in its Digital Academy, Royal HaskoningDHV continues to invest in Building Information Modelling (BIM) knowledge, skills and competences.

Raising openBIM standards

buildingSMART International's core goal is to improve the efficiency and sustainability in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry through the promotion of open, international standards for information exchange; openBIM. The chapter in the Benelux focuses on promoting the adoption of these open standards within the region. To ensure successful collaboration and to unlock the potential of BIM, a universal agreement on definitions and an international standard are essential. The buildingSMART Professional Certification programme establishes a benchmark to enhance and assess the competence level of professionals in openBIM.

Co-creation

Anton van der Sanden, Global Director Mobility & Infrastructure and Director Netherlands at Royal HaskoningDHV: “Better information management enables better decision making in the design and engineering process, leading to better management and delivery of projects in the built environment. Collaboration is key; everyone has a role to play. This co-creation works best when we all speak the same language and share our knowledge. Therefore, we not only introduce the certification programme to our people as part of our Digital Academy, but we will also make it available to our partners and clients. That ensures a stable reference point for all professionals in architecture, engineering and construction.”

Jugal Makwana Global Director Digital Engineering at Royal HaskoningDHV: “Co-creation starts with digitally skilled people. The buildingSMART Professional Certification programme enables us to educate and certify individuals according to a recognised global learning framework. Last year we already started with the programme in the UK. We aim to have at least 100 of our people certified globally by the end of 2023.”

Development

Paul Bos, Board Member buildingSMART Benelux: “With the Professional Certification Foundation programme, a good foundation is in place. We are currently looking at how we can expand it further. In the Netherlands, we are already quite far along in the development and implementation of BIM. We therefore believe we can offer more than the basics. In addition, the programme will also be further developed from buildingSMART International in the coming years with the practitioner programme. This qualification focuses on knowledge-based learning delivered through standardised training followed by an online exam. We look forward to continuing this development together with the market.”
