Plans for a new Cruise Terminal at White Bay in Sydney, Australia, were announced in 2009. Following the award of the design and build contract to TEAM, Royal HaskoningDHV was contracted by the Sydney Ports Corporation to provide an independent third party design check of two passenger walkways for the terminal. Royal HaskoningDHV’s Sydney office was utilised as the focal point for the project.
The verification involved senior structural, mechanical and electrical staff travelling to Spain to observe factory acceptance tests during construction. When the walkways were delivered to Sydney, Royal HaskoningDHV staff were on-site to witness the testing, commissioning and training of Sydney Ports staff, prior to the final handover.
The first vessel, The Pacific Pearl, arrived at White Bay Cruise Terminal on 15th April 2013 with the walkways fully operational for the disembarkation of her passengers and crew.
