Innovative traffic optimisation solution Flowtack from Royal HaskoningDHV has picked up the Technology Innovation prize at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Annual Awards for Excellence at this years’ Centenary celebrations. Despite close competition, judges agreed that Flowtack led the field as a ground-breaking innovation with proven results.
Flowtack collates and analyses travel data in real-time to optimise vehicle flow at network level and is already proven to reduce the number of vehicles having to stop at junctions by 30-40%. It also brings about a reduction in CO2 emissions by between 7-13% and reduces nitrogen oxide by over 10%.
Flowtack has already gained great momentum across cities in the Netherlands, with the solution rolled out in the municipality of Rijswijk, Deventer and at the Port of Rotterdam amongst others.
The awards evening took place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London with Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, in attendance as part of celebrations for the CILT’s centenary year.
Dr Marwan AL-Azzawi, Sector Lead Director – Mobility Transport & Planning at Royal HaskoningDHV said: "Improving traffic flow is a priority for any growing town or city in the world. It leads to better accessibility, safety and air quality for residents and visitors alike. Flowtack has already seen great success in the Netherlands and implementation is already beginning across the UK – putting cities in control of their traffic flow.
“It’s a real honour to have the solution celebrated at the CILT awards. Many of our employees are members of the Institute and to be recognised as part of the centenary celebrations is very special."
Flowtack won the Roads Visionary award at New Civil Engineer’s TechFest awards last month, and an NLingenieurs Award in the Netherlands in November 2018.
