Over the last 40 years, Milaha’s strategically located shipyard in Mesaieed, Doha, has repaired approximately 8,000 vessels, serving both regional and international clients. Milaha plans to increase this volume in the coming years and has appointed Royal HaskoningDHV to plan the upgrade of the shipyard’s facilities in preparation for this growth.

The scope of the upgrade plan will cover every aspect of the shipyard’s production facilities and will be phased to ensure that ongoing business is not interrupted.
Adrian Arnold, Sector Director Shipyards at Royal HaskoningDHV, said: “We are honoured to be appointed by Milaha Shipyard for this major upgrade investment. Investments in shipyard developments have a major positive impact on the society of any country – the model of successful shipyards acting as springboards for economies has been proven all over the world and is a key reason for the importance of this project. Our planning will enable the entire shipyard production facilities to meet the challenges of the next 40 years, taking into consideration any potential obstacles. We have a strong track record of shipyard developments around the world and we look forward to bringing our unique capabilities once again to Qatar.”

Milaha’s President and CEO Mr. Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai commented on the shipyard’s plans to upgrade: “The phased upgrade plan for our shipyard is being done to support our business strategy and to increase the shipyard’s market share in four diversified target market sectors, all with minimal disruption to the ongoing operations at the facility.

“When completed, the shipyard will have an increased capacity and efficiency in handling ship repair works of larger and more complex size, will enhance the focus on the industrial business support and ensure a world class solution for all its clients. Additionally, the planned upgrades include a new larger floating dock, larger and enhanced workshops and an overall revamping of the facilities aimed to the introduction of unique services to support specialized areas of Qatar ongoing development.”

The upgrade is expected to commence in early 2019 and to be completed by third quarter 2020.

Milaha was established in 1957 as the first public shareholding company registered in Qatar and works across the maritime industry from marine transportation in gas, to offshore support services and port management and operations.
