The metro station of the Hague Central is nominated for the European Steel Design Awards 2019. Together with architect ZJA, Movares and Knippers + Helbig from Stuttgart, Royal HaskoningDHV designed the new station for the lightrail connection between The Hague and Rotterdam. The design has been further engineered and built by several contractors: BAM Infra, Iemants, v/d Bersselaar and Ney. Our clients were ProRail and the Municipality of The Hague.
The eye-catcher of the station is the platform roofing, made of curved steel and glass. Also striking is the steel canopy that connects the metro station with the hall of The Hague Central.
The selection for the nominees has been made according to the following criteria:
- architectural design
- quality of Engineering
- quality of Fabrication
- sustainability performance
- to Exemplify the advantages of steel.
We are very proud to be nominated and to have been part of the project. We look forward to the awards ceremony October 14th in Brussels.
