On the 24th of October Filip Schuurman, Specialist Hydrodynamic and Morphodynamic Engineering, received the international Lorenz G. Straub award for his PhD thesis. The thesis, titled 'Bar and Channel Evolution in Meandering and Braiding Rivers using Physics-based Modeling', was recognized as an exceptional dissertation within the area of hydraulic engineering and related fields.
At a special award ceremony in Minneapolis Filip received a he received a medal and had the opportunity to give a lecture about his work. For Filip, it is a great achievement and recognition of his research at the Utrecht University. After successfully defended the thesis in 2015, Filip applies the knowledge obtained during the research at a nearly daily basis in his projects at Royal HaskoningDHV.
The Lorenz G. Straub award is annually given by the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, linked to the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis, US). Every university worldwide may submit one thesis each year.
