With the announcement of the shortlisted entries into this year’s Water Industry Awards (WIA) earlier this week, Royal HaskoningDHV is delighted to confirm that its first Nereda® Package Plant has been shortlisted in the Wastewater Innovation Project of the Year category.
Working collaboratively with United Utilities, its framework contractor C2V+ and MEICA delivery partner Suprafilt, Royal HaskoningDHV has supported the design, factory build and site assembly of the first ever Nereda Package Plant at United Utilities’ Westnewton Wastewater Treatment Works (WwTW).
Nereda Package Plants, which are a simple and compact design using Nereda technology, have been developed on a design one – build many basis, to provide a repeatable factory-built, competitive, sustainable, low whole life cost solution for improved nutrient removal including biological phosphorus removal at small works. The Package Plant range covers seven variants to meet the requirements of wastewater treatment plants serving up to 10,000 people. The system installed at Westnewton WwTW was a Package 100, to serve approximately 300 population equivalent.
This year’s WIA marks the 15th year of the awards, which have become a must-attend event for the whole water industry, with the opportunity to celebrate the excellent work of UK water companies and their supply partners. The Wastewater Innovation Project category recognises the importance of finding new approaches, technologies and ways of working, and awards the project that demonstrates the best technical, process or management innovation carried out in 2020.
Commented Barry Oliver, Nereda Regional Sales Director “We are delighted our joint entry has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The introduction of Nereda Package Plants offers a solution to one of the key challenges for water companies in AMP 7 – the tightening of water consent for phosphorus removal on smaller wastewater treatment works. By working closely with United Utilities and all parties involved in this project we have been able to demonstrate the concept and agree standard repeatable designs.
“We are also looking forward to celebrating with our Aquasuite team, who have been shortlisted in the Alliancing and Partnership Initiative of the Year category with SES Water's intelligent network solution in partnership with Vodafone and Technolog.”
Royal HaskoningDHV's award-winning Nereda wastewater treatment solution is already being applied on six continents for municipal and industrial water.
