PTV-VISSIM is a powerful tool in assessing the effect of changes in the road system. The software provides the viewer with a real time experience of the highway’s operation and allows the impact of new transport schemes, or changes to existing schemes, to be reviewed in a manner that can be visualised and easily understood.
This microscopic simulation program models the unique behavior of individual users including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, and will model their interaction within a transport network. The software allows the user to test different scenarios in a realistic and highly detailed manner, before implementation.
The program can be used to examine the operation traffic flow along a particular highway link or a junction, and can include the assessment of give-way (priority control) junctions, roundabouts or traffic signal control junctions.
The impact of adjusting a highway network can be assessed, such as changing the parameters of a junction or the signal timings at traffic lights, so that the most favorable and optimal design can be chosen.
The software allows the user to measure specific data such as average speed, trip times and traffic distributions at a specific location.
Due to the graphical opportunities and visualization methods, the program can be used as a communication / presentational tool for consultation with stakeholders, such as a Local Planning Authority, Highways Agency, developer, local residents etc.
If you would like to discuss the a development project and how VISSIM modelling could be used to assess the implications of the scheme, please do not hesitate to contact Royal HaskoningDHV.
