Can you give us a quick overview of your role?
As a senior waste consultant I give advice to lenders on projects right up to financial close for waste to energy plants, both in the UK and overseas.
You’ve been working here for nearly two years. What attracted you to us in the first place?
I knew I wanted the next step in my career to be a real challenge, and given what I knew about it as a company, I thought that Royal HaskoningDHV would be able to give me this. I was right! The variety of projects was also really appealing – we work on projects at all stages, from feasibility studies right through to design and construction.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
I get to work on a really wide variety of projects and tasks. The work is always very fulfilling – particularly when I’m working closely with my team. I also find I’m developing every day – it’s a constant learning process.
What interests you most about the job you do?
I think the most interesting part of my job is when I have the opportunity to analyse new projects which are developed with non-conventional technologies. It’s always exciting to have unusual projects come across my desk.
What has been the most inspirational project you’ve worked on in your time here?
The Ince Park Gasification project. This was the first project I worked on when I joined the company. It reached financial close in September 2015, which was such an incredible achievement. The project uses advanced conversion technology and will power around 40,000 homes when construction is completed. Achieving financial close was a challenging process, and I had a real sense of satisfaction helping the client to achieve this.
What three words would you use to describe us?
Progress, innovation and development.
How has your career developed since working here?
Already in my time here I’ve been able to complete two courses that have complemented my degree; one focusing on construction contracts and UK legislation, and the other exploring project finance. These have equipped me with a firm foundation in contract law and project finance, which has proved to be invaluable for my role. Alongside this, I’ve also been given some excellent on-the-job training – including being able to act as project manager for my projects.
What do you value most about working here?
Learning and development – we’re constantly being given new opportunities to develop ourselves and our career – whether that’s formally or informally. Not only does this mean I’m learning lots, but it also means I’m able to do a better and more efficient job for my clients.
How would you describe your colleagues?
My work colleagues are, more than anything else, approachable when I need help, positive, good listeners and very supportive.
