Integrated water approach in the full industrial water cycle pays off

Water plays a crucial role in many industrial segments: as source material, as utility or as transport medium for energy or materials. Over the past decade the awareness for good water stewardship, water scarcity and the potential for water reuse and recovery of raw materials from wastewater has increased significantly. Moreover, our industrial clients acknowledge that good water stewardship, company reputation AND long term profitability go hand in hand. In other words: taking an integrated water approach looking at the full industrial water cycle, and beyond, pays off. We are really excited to work with our clients on these challenges.

We are currently expanding our global team of some 60 industrial water experts who work from our main industrial water hubs in Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, South Africa, UAE, UK and The Netherlands. We do this to be even closer to our customers whilst making use of our global water expertise. In this newsletter you can find some fine examples of what we do for the industry.

DS Smith optimizes and rebuilds water treatment plant
DS Smith Kemsley Paper mill, the second largest recycled paper mill in Europe and the largest in the UK, produces paper/cardboard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 362 days a year. More than 800,000 tons a year is produced, including the specific "white cardboards" that our online stores use to send us fancy printed recognizable boxes. Who would have thought about this growing market in times of paperless offices?

Sedibeng Brewery effluent treatment plant operation

The Heineken Brewery in Sedibeng, South Africa,
operates 2 UASB digesters and 6 SBR units to treat
the effluent from the brewery operations. Royal HaskoningDHV has been responsible for operation of
the wastewater treatment plant for more than 3 years
since October 2013. To transfer technical knowledge
and troubleshooting skills we were further appointed to
offer a two day training program to the brewery management on brewery wastewater treatment.

Alginate from Nereda®
sludge works both ways

When applying the Royal HaskoningDHV Nereda®
technology for waste water treatment, Nereda® alginate,
a sustainable raw material, becomes available. Water
Authority Rijn en IJssel has announced the commissioning
of the world’s first Nereda® alginate factory in Zutphen,
The Netherlands. Water Authority Vallei and Veluwe is
planning to do the same in Apeldoorn or Epe, The
Netherlands. Also for the industry the application of
Nereda® alginate could be of interest.

Successful Nereda® water treatment at Westfort Meat Products

Mid November 2015 Westfort Meat Products in IJsselstein, The Netherlands
took into operation a unique innovative and sustainable slaughterhouse.
PROMAD conducted the civil engineering and project management and
RWB built the water treatment with the Nereda® technology provided by
Royal HaskoningDHV. The water treatment has been running successfully
for almost a year and a half now.

In the spotlight: Oldest Nereda plant still performing well ten years ons
At the production site of Smilde Foods BV food plant, The Nether-
lands, producer of salads, sauces and quiches, stands a Nereda® wastewater treatment plant.  It is the oldest Nereda plant still in use.
