Royal HaskoningDHV has been awarded a multi-year landside project management contract as part of Schiphol’s Capital Programme to significantly expand Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The landside infrastructure improvements, together with the new pier and terminal, will create capacity for a further 14 million passengers a year.
Enhancing the competitive position of Schiphol
Schiphol has expansive growth plans in order to fulfil its ambition of becoming Europe’s preferred airport and is therefore creating a new pier and terminal. The new pier is expected to be open for use in 2019 and the new terminal in 2023.
The expansion will strengthen the competitive position of Mainport Schiphol, allowing it to keep pace with the growth in aviation and provide more facilities for passengers, airlines and service providers.
Royal HaskoningDHV will be responsible for project management and construction management for all landside reconstruction work which includes additional parking capacity, a temporary connection to the surface level to increase capacity and expansion of elevated roads for Kiss & Ride and service roads to the new terminal.
The Capital Programme is a complex project not least because of the spatial limitations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, but also the fact that the airport will remain in full use during construction.
This is also the reason why Schiphol seeks to strengthen the current project team with the addition of Royal HaskoningDHV to comprehensively manage these complexities in order to deliver the aims for the Schiphol airport of the future.
