The renovation design of TU/e university buildings 'Gemini' and 'Laplace' has been awarded to Team V Architecture, Royal HaskoningDHV and DGMR, a partnership called TW-IN. The university aspires these more than 40-year-old buildings to become an inspiring and state of the art research and education environment meeting very high sustainability standards. It awarded the contracts to the partnership because of its vision, approach and team.

Respectful renovations

The ‘Gemini building’ is being renovated on a large scale to meet the ambitions of TU/e in the fields of sustainability, technology, education and research. It retains its current function as the centre of the Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments.

The ‘Laplace’ building will be substantially transformed into a campus-wide 'Education Center' with lecture halls and study workspaces for students from all departments. In both projects the aim is to renovate respectfully to new build level and to obtain a BREEAM Excellent certificate for sustainability.

The revival will enhance the central heart of the campus and offers student and researchers an inspiring and well-functioning environment.

The buildings Laplace (1972, 12.000 m2) and Gemini (1974, 34.000 m2) were designed by architect and urban designer S.J. van Embden.
