Royal HaskoningDHV is delighted to congratulate Equinix, one of the world’s largest data centre providers, on today’s official opening of AM4 – its newest, state-of-the-art International Business Exchange™ (IBX) data centre located in the Amsterdam Science Park. Royal HaskoningDHV designed AM4 in collaboration with Benthem Crouwel architects and has been supporting Equinix during construction of this iconic facility.

Amsterdam is widely recognized as one of the greatest data centre development areas in the world. Standing on the skyline terrace at more than 70 metres high, AM4 is a striking new landmark right in the heart of the city. The new data centre offers a broad range of network services as well as superb views over the city. When fully built-out the facility will be able to accommodate 4,200 cabinets spread over eight data floors – an area equivalent to two soccer fields. AM4 enables companies to extend network infrastructure to the digital edge and enhance workload performance by shortening the distance between services and users.

Michiel Eielts, Managing Director Benelux at Equinix commented: “We are delighted to be opening our newest, state-of-the-art data centre in Amsterdam. Following the success of the international- award winning AM3 Datacentre, AM4 delivers an upgrade both in terms of resilience and energy efficiency. With the full commitment of Royal HaskoningDHV we succeeded in delivering a new data centre which meets the specific requirements of our clients.”

Martien Arts, Director Mission Critical Facilities at Royal HaskoningDHV commented: “AM4 is a unique data centre, which beautifully complements its surroundings. The ratios of building height to heavy loads presented us with the kind of challenge we not only relish but excel at taking on and we are very proud to have supported Equinix in this exciting project.“We worked closely with Equinix and other partners throughout the project and the result is a truly impressive, flexible data centre where high-quality white space areas are supplied by reliable and highly efficient power and cooling facilities. As a result the building not only delivers impressive service to clients but is able to also achieve outstanding energy efficiency targets.”

Royal HaskoningDHV has over fifteen years’ experience with data centre design and has been involved with Equinix for many years on remarkable projects in Europe and the Middle East – including the design of data centre FR6 which opened in Frankfurt last week.
