Royal HaskoningDHV will accompany Ms Melanie Schultz van Haegen, Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and the Environment, on a trade mission to Azerbaijan on 6 and 7 November 2014. Among the Dutch delegates will be Mr Piet Besselink, member of the Royal HaskoningDHV Executive Board, and Mr Johan Mathijssen, Royal HaskoningDHV Country Director for Azerbaijan.

Royal HaskoningDHV has been active in Azerbaijan since the 1990s and is mainly joining the trade mission to strengthen existing relations. The company's activities in Azerbaijan are largely focussed on environmental protection, water management, flood protection and port development.

Recent Royal HaskoningDHV projects undertaken in Azerbaijan include the following:
  • Master planning, design, engineering and construction supervision services for the new Baku International Sea Trade Port which was opened by President Aliyev September 2014. Client: Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport.
  • Environmental Baseline Study of the water and sediment quality in and around the polluted Baku Bay, in co-operation with Dutch knowledge institution Deltares. Client: Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations.
  • Solutions to flooding caused by rising groundwater and lake water levels and solutions to pollution of (freshwater and salt) lakes by oil spills and rapid urbanisation on Absheron Peninsula, in co-operation with Dutch knowledge institution Deltares. Client: Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations.
