Stimulating cycling and planning cycling highways

Jasper Homrighausen is going to tell why one should never waste a crisis when pursuing accessible, liveable and attractive cities. How cycling greatly contributes to solving large urban challenges and at the same time greatly benefits from the momentum crises will cause. Therefore he underlines the importance of good governance and coalitions aside from the traditional importance of cycling infrastructure and human behaviour. For his story he uses examples of previous research and projects he has worked on in the Netherlands, the US and the UK.

Sjors van Duren will present the CHIPS (Cycle Highways Innovation for smarter People Transport and Spatial Planning) cycling highway session. He will elaborate on the planning process of cycling highways and give insights on how to influence decision makers and stakeholders to support the cycling highway plan. During his presentation he will give examples of successful projects and highlight some of the strategies that were used in the Netherlands to plan and prepare the construction of cycling highways.

Planning and construction of bicycle parking facilities in Brazil

Isabela Ledo will focus on the process of planning and construction of Bicicletário Arariboia, one of the largest public bicycle parking facilities of Brazil, a project realized under her coordination in the main transport hub of Niterói, a city in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro where she worked between 2015 and 2017.

Innovation in cycling

Besides presenting this work, Isabela will be also coordinating a session about innovations and quality of life in public spaces and mediating another session about the relation between people and public spaces.
