The proposition of railways to society, being the most sustainable mode of mass transport, should become the preferred option of travel! To reach that modal shift together, we will have to make rail more competitive in terms of reliability, performance and service models. Through digital technology we can reach that required step forward and deliver the next generation mobility!

Fast-tracking futureproof innovations

Royal HaskoningDHV is supporting rail clients in driving greater efficiencies and improve performance through our integrated and connected approach, augmented by digital technology. We are using innovative digital solutions to optimize and drive greater efficiencies at each stage of the value chain to enable capacity for future mobility together.

Our integrated approach includes three pillars:

  • Our high-level digital expertise
  • Our strong capability to connect people, organisations, skills, ways of working, standards and planning
  • Our drive to integrate sustainability and circularity in our projects and processes.

For instance, we have created the “digital twin” of the Dutch rail network, using open track software. This model is being used for creation of robust time tables, assessing variants, changes in speed profiles and infrastructure using simulations. We are also working on time table assessment and optimization, crowd management and waste management for station areas and energy consumption reduction. We are part of the alliance sharing knowledge and preparing for implementation of ERTMS in the Netherlands.
