Project Seabird is one of the largest infrastructure projects of the Indian Navy. Upon completion of the project, the integrated Naval Base will become the largest in Asia. Royal HaskoningDHV and consortium partner MECON has been commissioned by the Indian Navy for the prestigious “Project Seabird” Phase IIA to provide design and supervision consultancy services for the Dockyard and Fleet Base Buildings. Our contract will be one of the largest assignments in the maritime sector in India for the value of more than INR 200 crores (approx. 30 million euros).

Period of 88 months

The project involves the planning and design of the Dockyard and Fleet Base Buildings at the Naval Base at Karwar on the west coast of India. Royal HaskoningDHV and consortium will be carrying out complete professional consultancy services, including planning, detailed design, scheduling, tendering and monitoring/site supervision during the construction period for the entire infrastructure planned in this phase over a period of 88 months.

Long-lasting relationship

The project win is significant because of our involvement in Phase IA of the project between 1989 and 2004. Royal HaskoningDHV (formerly NEDECO) with Redecon Australia prepared the master plan for the development of this greenfield Naval Base. This involved the preparation of detailed designs for Marine Works and subsequently site supervision for Marine Works. MECON was involved in the design of onshore facilities for Phase I. Phase IIA of the project will also enable us and our consortium partner MECON to further strengthen our working relationship with the India Navy, having worked with them on various projects over the past several years.
