Royal HaskoningDHV’s Aquasuite tool finalist for the UK Consultancy and Engineering Awards
Royal HaskoningDHV’s digital solution Aquasuite has been nominated for the Consultancy and Engineering (C&E) Awards. Aquasuite is a smart water technology that monitors, analyses, visualises and controls the performance of water and wastewater infrastructure. The prestigious C&E Awards celebrate the outstanding people, teams and projects from the world of consultancy, engineering and the built environment. The awards are rewarded by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) to the best UK built environment consultancy firm. Royal HaskoningDHV is shortlisted in two categories, Client Advisor of the Year and Best use of Digital.
Artificial Intelligence to reduce water loss
The nomination for the C&E Award is for a project we did for SES Water, a drinking water utility serving nearly one million people in the South East of England. In partnership with Vodafone (telecom) and Technolog (sensors), Royal HaskoningDHV delivered a network wide Artificial Intelligence (AI) monitoring system that enables SES Water to reduce water loss and provide better levels of service for its customers. This is the first partnership of its kind to implement a mass roll-out of AI into a water distribution network, providing more frequent data, better data granularity and more reliable data. The system not only enables SES Water to reduce the water intake from the natural environment, but it also further minimises interruptions to supply for customers providing them with a more reliable, consistent, and resilient service.Meaningful, near real-time insights
Royal HaskoningDHV provided a truly innovative and state of the art AI software package, Aquasuite BURST, which is able to process the data in near real-time, producing meaningful insights that SES Water can use to find and fix leaks quicker. Aquasuite BURST uses historical data to predict what is happening now – testing this prediction against field data enables detection of deviations which are often leaks, burst or illegal connections. This is the first time AI has been deployed across every part of a water supply network in the UK.Save leakage volumes
Aquasuite BURST now forms a core part of SES Water's business as usual operation. As a result, SES Water has been able to reduce leak detection time and save 30-40% of leakage volumes on larger leaks. Also, the software gains additional insights on leading indicators, that help prevent future network events from happening. On top of that, SES experiences an overall reduction on carbon and environmental impact through improved efficiency by only sending field teams to genuine issues and targeting where they look for leaks.
