Royal HaskoningDHV has been re-awarded a prestigious Anti-Corruption Certificate recognising the company meets and, in some areas, exceeds international best practice in doing business with integrity. Royal HaskoningDHV has held the award from ETHIC Intelligence since 2010 and remains the first and only engineering consultancy to participate in this demanding programme.

Royal HaskoningDHV CEO, Erik Oostwegel, said: “We are a global company committed to act ethically and with transparency. Our integrity policy is designed and embedded throughout the company to ensure we work according to international anti-corruption conventions. We are proud to see our efforts are recognised and meet the high standards of the ETHIC Intelligence certification.”

Zero-tolerance to corruption

He added: “The impact of corruption is felt across societies and it hinders social and economic development around the world. Our zero-tolerance to corruption is a fundamental part of our promise to enhance society together and to sustainable growth.”
The certificate is valid for three years and includes a surveillance audit every year.

Extensive independent audit

The Anti-Corruption Certificate was awarded after an extensive independent audit of the company’s integrity and anti-corruption programmes. The reviewers noted that Royal HaskoningDHV’s integrity and compliance policy is properly designed and consistently managed in line with international best practice. In addition, three areas were identified where the company demonstrated above-average best practices. These were: ensuring continuous open dialogue on integrity in all staff and management meetings across the company; bringing partners and third parties within the scope of its policy; and operating a plan to prevent conflicting interests in public projects.

Globally embedded business principles

The increasing importance of business integrity is reflected in the growing number of clients attaching importance to suppliers that act with integrity, and countries adopting anti-corruption legislation. However, social, cultural and business contexts continue to differ across the world which is why Royal HaskoningDHV embeds a Global Code of Business Principles providing all staff with a compass for decisions and actions. In addition, the company promotes an environment of transparency and accountability to ensure that where dilemmas arise open discussion can take place to reach appropriate solutions.

International conventions

Through its commitment to fair business, Royal HaskoningDHV in 2008 signed the United Nations Global Compact – the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, and take actions that advance societal goals.
The company is also committed to the Federation of International Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Code of Ethics, the World Economic Forum Partnering Against Corruption Initiative and the Transparency International Business Principles for Countering Bribery.

Four global certificates

This Anti-Corruption certificate is one of the four global certificates Royal HaskoningDHV holds. The others are ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and OHSAS 18001:2007 for occupational health and safety.
