THE EIR AT A GLANCE
The world is digitising and society requires speed, clear organisation and transparency. This need is only going to increase, particularly because of the arrival of the Omgevingswet (Environment and Planning Act). For this reason, Royal HaskoningDHV developed an interactive application that you can use to present the complex information of the EIR in a user-friendly way to a number of stakeholders. Thanks to visualisations, tables, 360-degree images and animations and more, you can show a project's potential impact on the environment in an easy-to-understand way. This transparency provides better insight into the subject matter as well as increased stakeholder involvement and therefore promotes decision-making.
THE INTERACTIVE EIR – DISCOVER IT NOW
EIR experts at the provincial, municipal, Rijkswaterstaat and Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment explain the advantages of the digital EIR, “The time is ripe for this innovation; it improves the quality of decision-making.”
Discover how we replace long pieces of text with visuals, animations, interactive maps and tables, and how this promotes better decision-making.
“We see that the interactive EIR replaces its paper and analogue variant more often.”
Paul Eijssen, Royal HaskoningDHV’s strategic advisor on EIR and developer of the interactive EIR.
SPEED, OVERVIEW AND TRANSPARENCYRoyal HaskoningDHV is driven by innovations that promote transparency and make increased stakeholder involvement possible. This resulted in the development of a new online platform for the environmental impact report: the EIR. We reduce complexity, without sacrificing completeness, by making complicated and large amounts of information available in layered and visual ways. This is how we contribute to more efficient and effective decision-making.
“ At Rijkswaterstaat, we continually search for renewal and innovation as well as ways of involving citizens in the work we do. The interactive EIR means that we have more visual, clear overviews, tables and images available to us. You show what EIR is about and use targeted clicks to find more information if you need it. This increases citizen engagement.”
Paul Licht, department head of 'Ruimte, Economie en MIRT' (Space, Economy and the Long-term Infrastructure, Spatial and Transportation Programme) at Rijkswaterstaat.
INNOVATION AND E-PARTICIPATION
The interactive EIR enables you to improve the quality and efficiency of the decision-making process concerning multi-stakeholder projects. The application is continually being improved and expanded with new user options, such as the e-Participation tool. This makes it possible to further increase the support for the complex information from the EIR as part of the Dutch Environment and Planning Act.
The digital EIR was developed together with the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and received a positive recommendation from the independent Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment.
