Royal HaskoningDHV is presenting it’s sustainable Nereda wastewater treatment technology at the International Conference on Biofilm Reactors in Dublin.
Sjoerd Kerstens (Royal HaskoningDHV) presents about the status of aerobic granular sludge technology. Last decades the technology emerged from laboratory and was scaled up towards a technology that is now applied widely for both industrial and municipal wastewater treatment applications. What are the most important technical lessons learned? Kerstens will also compare the experience of this technology with conventional activated sludge technology and classic biofilm.
Marisa Buyers-Baso (Royal HaskoningDHV) speaks about the Process Proving of Nereda technology at Dublin’s Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant. This Irish plant has 24 large scale Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR’s) designed to treat a total of 1.64 MPE per day. The plant currently receives approximately 1.9 MPE per day and it is planned to increase its capacity further to accommodate a total load of 2.4 MPE. The WwTP must also meet stricter effluent limits originally designed for due to its outfall location in the Lower Liffey Estuary which has been designated a ‘sensitive area’ under the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD).
Furthermore, a site visit to the Carrigtwohill Aerobic Granules Site will be part of the programme.
Other Nereda related presentations on the programme:

- Odd Numbered VFA Producing Granular Sludge Reactor: Do Inner PH Gradients Influence The Granule Structure? (Merle de Kreuk, TU Delft)

About the Biofilm conference
Biofilm processes are central to an increasing number of biological wastewater treatment technologies. The aim of this conference is to bring together both practitioners and researchers to disseminate new knowledge and to link practical application with basic sciences. The meeting will enable the exchange of ideas, insights and collaborations. We have developed strong program and the local organising is committed to ensuring that this conference will meet the excellent standards of previous conference in the series.
