Locks & gates 

We have considerable expertise in delivering port access and river navigation projects in the UK and abroad. Dams

Our experience includes the design of embankment dams in accordance with the 1975 Reservoirs Safety Act. We have recently designed flood storage reservoir dams for three locations in North East Scotland.  We also assess the likelihood and potential implications of failure of embankment dams, including numerical hydraulic modelling of the resulting flood inundation.

Embankments

Royal HaskoningDHV is involved in the geotechnical and hydraulic design and risk-based performance assessment of water retaining earth embankments. We contribute to the development of best practice in this field, which is being applied in a number of high profile flood risk management projects.  We are also working with the US Army Corps of Engineers to deliver improvements to the hurricane and storm risk reduction system in New Orleans, particularly in relation to the levee embankments, following the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
