Royal HaskoningDHV were engaged by NSW Crown Lands for the investigation, design and environmental assessment of the Swansea Channel dredging.

The project involved dredging of up to 100,000m3 of sand from Swansea Channel that was then pumped 1.5km overland to Blacksmiths Beach for dune nourishment.

Several environmental investigations and studies were undertaken as part of the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) and to inform the design, including: sediment sampling and analysis (chemical, physical and acid sulfate soils testing) flora and fauna studies, a heritage study, and a noise impact assessment.
