The infrastructure in the municipality of Oss and the Provincie Noord-Brabant has changed drastically in the last years. As a result, the bicycle bridge Munlaan no longer adheres to the required safety standards. Royal HaskoningDHV has been asked to redesign and strengthen the guardrail so that bicyclists and persons on horseback can continue to cross the N329 safely, now and in the future.
The bicycle bridge lies along the Munlaan, which continues to become the Rijsvensestraat. The newly built four-lane N329 motorway passes underneath the bicycle viaduct.
The structure of the viaduct is simple, but integrates well in the overall look and feel of the Motorway of the Future. The span of the viaduct has been built longer than necessary as a widening of the motorway was foreseen. The viaduct thus spans over the motorway symmetrically.
The architect has chosen to respect the unique character of the concrete structure of the viaduct, and has designed a strong, yet architecturally subtle guardrail, so that the essence of the viaduct would remain intact.
