The Tanzanian Ports Authority wanted to ensure that a proposed dry inland port development near Kigoma had a robust plan, since it would play an important role in the logistics chain of the country.
Royal HaskoningDHV was appointed to carry out a feasibility study for the new dry port. Our team provided assistance in developing the technical, financial, economic, institutional, social and environmental aspects as part of the study.
Our team studied the potential traffic which would be associated with the port, alongside its complex relationships with cost, demand, transit times, existing seaport capacity and the influence of a planned Special Economic Zone in the region.
We developed a phased masterplan – with evaluation of economic and environmental impacts – along with advice on the best way to set up an organisation to operate the facility.
