About the Westfort Nereda WWTP
Nereda was selected by Netherlands-based Westfort Meatproducts for one of the world’s most innovative, sustainable and animal welfare respecting pig slaughterhouses. With its small footprint, sustainability, low energy use and robustness the Nereda technology fits perfectly with the needs of Westfort. Royal HaskoningDHV was responsible for detail engineering, delivery, installation and start-up of the Nereda wastewater treatment installation, Promad for civil engineering and project management and RWB built the installation.

The Nereda technology was implemented in two rectangular, completely covered concrete tanks, with a technical area on top of the tanks and a parking deck at the roof of this technical area. The work was completed mid-November 2015. Because Westfort immediately needed a good effluent quality granular sludge of the Nereda installation in Garmerwolde and of the pilot plant in Utrecht was used for the start-up. This approach seemed successful in the first week. Royal HaskoningDHV is following the treatment process real time by using a tailor made AquaSuite® Nereda Controller.
