The Ichthys LNG Project is located at Bladin Point near Darwin, Australia. Gas is received from the plant through a 900km off-shore pipeline from the Ichthys gas field. The plant has a total capacity of 8.9 million tonnes of LNG per year.

The Royal HaskoningDHV Protected Storage Engineering team provided design verification for four containment tanks for the Cryogenic Tank Works, near Darwin, Australia. The scope of the project included tank loading data, temperature calculations for the outer tank under various operating conditions, general tank layout details and design analysis.

The concrete tanks were built for the storage of LNG (two tanks with a net working capacity of 165,000m³), Propane storage (one tank with a net working capacity of 85,000m³) and Butane (one full containment with a net working capacity of 60,000m³).

The Royal HaskoningDHV PSE team completed design verification for the Ichthys LNG project in 2012 on behalf of the consortium Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. and Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd.
