Siemens Energy is establishing a link between the North Sea offshore wind farm Amrumbank West and the onshore grid. The end-client and future operator is TenneT TSO GmbH of Bayreuth, Germany. The link includes the offshore HVDC converter platform HelWin Beta. Heerema / IV-group are responsible for all auxiliary systems on Helwin Beta. The end-client requests a safe and reliable platform design.

Our Solution

Royal HaskoningDHV facilitated in creating a reliable and safe design by providing:
  • FMECA (Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis)
  • RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) study
  • HAZID (Hazard Identification) Study
  • HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) Study
  • EERA (Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Assessment) Study

Royal HaskoningDHV facilitated different team sessions and performed desktop studies. In the team sessions the input of a multidisciplinary team from Heerema / IV was used to obtain the necessary technical input for improving safety and reliability.

The Outcome

The different studies provided the client with a thorough review of the reliability and safety aspects of the Helwin Beta Platform.

Actions and recommendations have been formulated, and afterwards implemented by the client, to improve the reliability and safety of the design.
Moreover, recommendations were made for maintenance of the platform and the expected availability was assessed.
