Royal HaskoningDHV has prepared Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Permit Applications for the D18a-A and L5a-D gas production platforms. As both platforms are located in Natura 2000 areas also Appropriate Assessments were carried out to assess possible effects on protected natural habitats and species.

For the Q13a-A oil production platform a study was performed to assess possible impact on species that are protected under the Flora & Fauna act. The Flora and Fauna Act became effective in 2002. The European treaties and directives (Habitat and Bird Directives) and international treaties (CITES) have been translated in this law. It regulates the protection of species, establishment of protected habitats, possibilities for management and combatting damage, trade in protected species and hunting wild animals.

Royal HaskoningDHV was involved as Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) consultant during the design of the three topsides by engineering firm Iv Oil & Gas.

The activities comprised of:
  • Engineering studies, such as HAZID & HAZOP reviews, SIL Assessments, Vent-Plume Studies
  • Safety Studies, such as: Fire & Explosion Hazard Assessments, Escape, Evacuation & Rescue Assessments, Ship Collision Assessments, Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA)
  • CFD Analysis: Explosion Overpressure Assessments, Smoke Flow & Dispersion Analysis
  • Development and preparation of Health & Safety Documents
