A multi-disciplinary team of experts provides a flexible resource to manage projects and upgrades at a steel production site.

Tata Steel’s IJmuiden site in the Netherlands produces high-quality steel parts for different markets, automotive, packaging, engineering and lifting & excavating. The plant is constantly in development to meet the product requirements in a continuously improving and high-demanding market.

On-demand engineering and project management services

To ensure continuity by undertaking site projects and upgrades in the right way at the right time, Tata Steel contracted Royal HaskoningDHV to provide flexible engineering and project management services. Our activities range from inspecting and managing assets, like buildings, conveyor belts, electrical installations and cranes, to re-engineering steel structures. Disciplines include civil, mechanical and electrical engineering, pipework, process engineering and more.

Customised solution to fit Tata Steel’s needs and ways of working

To respond with the right expertise for any particular demand, we oversee a team of contractors from several companies to cover the full range of disciplines and expertise. We follow Tata Steel’s structure and way of working, with up to 50 people working on projects at any time, scaled up or down according to need.

“What’s special about our solution is that it encompasses so many disciplines and responds directly to our client’s needs,” Rikus Oortwijn, Royal HaskoningDHV taskforce manager, explained. “The advantage for Tata Steel is that we know the site and how the company works so we can pick up a project immediately and do it very efficiently. Equally, we play to strengths, so if we don’t have the necessary experts in-house, we bring external contractors into our team under our supervision.”
