Musandam, in the north of Oman, is struggling with economic stagnation. The master plan will enhance the lives of Musandam’s 40,000 people, forecast to increase to 60,000 by 2040. The economic strategy is based on a combination of small scale and low carbon eco-tourism with sustainable diversification, such as traditional fisheries and artisanal agriculture.
The plan builds on the natural beauty of the peninsula to attract tourists. A new north-south coastal road will give access to the many stunning inlets and bays, and a new ‘National Park’ will protect the outstanding beauty of the mountains and rich marine life. A Zoning system was set-up by Royal HaskoningDHV to help zone and regulate the land-use in line with the master plan.
