The Batavia Marina project includes the creation of a new homeport for traditional refurbished charter sailing barges, a marina for yachts, the development of a business model and the creation of the ‘Dutch centre for Waterfront Expertise’.
Royal HaskoningDHV was commissioned by the local government to design, produce tender documents and supervise the development of Batavia Marina from start to finish. Royal HaskoningDHV acted as the owner’s engineer, taking full responsibility for the project management and contract administration. The project had a strict completion date which was imposed by funding deadlines.
Our multi-disciplinary team developed a design to create an attractive environment, combining architecture and spatial urban planning with civil, structural and maritime engineering. A breakwater connected to the shore by a wide dam was included in the design to protect the marina from waves, and a pier was used to separate the main basin into two areas – one for yachts and one for sailing barges.
