Royal HaskoningDHV was commissioned to develop a shipyard tender design for an Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) form of contract for a North African country. The shipyard needed to be capable of repairing two Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) vessels in two large dry docks. Ship building launch facilities would be provided by means of a twin marine railway facility.
The Royal HaskoningDHV team first completed an initial market study and a site selection report. The team established a masterplan and tender design for the shipyard, which provided an efficient and productive operational layout for the ship repair and shipbuilding activities.
The design included marine civil engineering, dredging, navigation, workshops, office buildings, roadways, paving, mechanical and electrical (M&E) elements. A 3D computer visualization of the shipyard was created together with a 2m x 3m physical model.
