Badagry Port & Free Zone is a new deep-sea facility located in Nigeria, which is expected to be the largest deep sea port in Africa. The port will include a container terminal, oil & gas services and a liquid bulk terminal, with general cargo and Ro-Ro facilities.

Creating a masterplan for the Badagry Port & Free Zone, Nigeria

Following appointment by APM Terminals, Royal HaskoningDHV’s work on this project has involved the development of the port layout and masterplan, as well as the procurement and supervision of onshore and offshore soil investigations, hydrographic surveys and met-ocean studies.

Specialist studies including dynamic mooring analysis, coastline impact studies and extensive hydraulic modelling were carried out to measure port tranquillity and predict long wave effects.  Road transport studies and a structural assessment of bridges were also included. Preliminary designs and cost estimates were prepared for quay structures, breakwaters, dredging and land based port infrastructure close to the port location.

Once completed, the state-of-the-art Badagry Port & Free Zone will support strong, sustainable growth both regionally and nationally. It will provide the deepest water in West Africa, allowing larger vessels to visit West Africa. This will allow Nigeria’s port system to remain competitive in the global marketplace.
