A dedicated oil and gas Offshore Service Complex (OSC) was proposed in South Africa to service and maintain offshore drilling and exploration rigs and to support future offshore field developments at the Port of Saldanha.
Royal HaskoningDHV was appointed to conduct a Concept Design Study.
The OSC development also included a spool base for pipe-laying barges, small ship repair yard, offshore service base, as well as multi-user fabrication and storage facilities. Within the study Royal HaskoningDHV explored the potential to integrate the proposed OSC development with existing Transnet (Port Authority) operations linking landside with waterside requirements.
This included investigating and assessing site characteristics based on available data: physical site conditions, local transportation network, existing utilities, property ownership and environmental considerations.
Four alternative layouts were presented to the client with a recommendation on the most appropriate.
The site was deemed suitable, but actual feasibility significantly depends on potential future users/tenants.
