The South Australian State Government wished to develop a Centre for Excellence in Marine and Defence Related Industries based in Adelaide, Australia.
At the centre of this development was to be a common user shiplift facility with a lifting capacity of approximately 25,000 tonnes - the largest shiplift in the Southern Hemisphere.
Royal HaskoningDHV was part of a project team led by McConnell Dowell and Built Environs, appointed through Early Contractor Award (ECI) to design, procure and construct all aspects of the common user shiplift facility. Royal HaskoningDHV was selected due to our extensive expertise in the design of shipyard and shiplift facilities. Our team provided expert on-site advice on design, installation and operation.
The facility includes the shiplift platform and foundations, a set of cradles and transfer carriages to suit the design vessels (Air Warfare Destroyers), a landward runway and two land berths, a 200m wharf for final afloat fitting out and testing, and access roads and hardstanding.
