Enhancing Society Together
April 2018

"Enhancing Society Together", our story in one short sentence. We see it every day under the Royal HaskoningDHV logo, on presentations and reports. We are enhancing society together. By working in partnership with our clients and other stakeholders, we are committed to make an impactful contribution to society through our projects. It is always there as a motivation for our people to determine the real problems and find the best solutions.

In this newsletter we have some nice examples that show how we do that and what we can achieve. Crystalactor® based resource recovery in Indonesia, a project driven by compliance, but paid for by the value of the recovered raw materials. Nereda® granular aerobic sludge technology for the paper industry, providing both an energy efficient and footprint efficient solution. WaterScan™ studies in South Africa and the Middle East, both water-scarce areas, where we take a bird’s eye perspective and find opportunities to drastically reduce water consumption. And finally Omrin The Netherlands, where we have upgraded the existing MBR plant resulting in an increased hydraulic capacity while at the same time reducing the required footprint and energy consumption. All wonderful examples of projects where we are enhancing society together with our clients.

Crystalactor® based resource recovery
J. Sinarko Wibowo a.k.a. Bob Sinarko (Business Development – Wastewater, PT Haskoning Indonesia): “Our client is one of the bigger fertilizer production companies in Indonesia. We have been engaging with them for quite some time and they had two important objectives related to their wastewater treatment; to comply with the applicable wastewater discharge standards and to recover as much valuable raw materials as possible from these wastewater streams.”

Sappi Lanaken realizes the first Nereda® installation in the paper industry

Worldwide, already more than 20 full scale Nereda® plants are inoperation and more than 20 plants are currently under construction, for the treatment of a total of 1.5 million m3 of waste water per day. The majority of these systems treat domestic waste water. Some recently awarded project are the Nereda plant for the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands (400,000 p.e) and the Nereda installation for the city of Dublin in Ireland (2,670,000 p.e.). Nereda technology also offers specific advantages for the industry.

Water conservation and reuse in The Middle East

Royal HaskoningDHV recently completed a WaterScan™ study
for a large Oil & Gas company in the Middle East. Their main objectives were to get a better view on water consumption at
three of their production plants and to identify opportunities for reduction of water consumption, for improvement of water efficiency and for water reuse. Ultimately the company wanted
to decrease their reliance on ground water.
