End of September the Open Compute Project (OCP) Regional Summit landed in Amsterdam for the second time. OCP is an open collaboration on IT hardware amongst companies like Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Huawei and IBM, in order to keep up with the worldwide demand of their software services.
Our colleague Stijn de Kruijf is involved in the OCP community since 2016 and presented the benefits of OCP and how these are reshaping the IT hardware and the data centre facility to become more integrated, resulting in more sustainable, efficient operation and cost-effective design.
The four OCP principles; Efficiency, Scale, Openness and Impact are valid for hardware as well as the data centre facility itself. OCP hardware requires an OCP ready facility. Key is to continue discussion in a broader audience about reshaping, collaborating and ultimately optimizing the data centre facility.
