2016 will see the completion of the new head office of Eurojust. In partnership with Mecanoo Architecten and DS Landschapsarchitecten, Royal HaskoningDHV was responsible for the sustainable design. The highly sustainable ambitions in the design were assessed with BREEAM-NL and awarded 3 stars (Very Good).

Wim Maassen, Leading Professional Sustainability & Life Cycle Costing, and Jonas Norrby, Junior Professional, are the sustainability and BREEAM experts at Royal HaskoningDHV and were both involved in this new construction project: "We congratulate Eurojust, Rijksvastgoedbedrijf and all parties and colleagues involved in the design on achieving the BREEAM-NL 3-star score for Eurojust. This is an excellent score for a building with such specific needs and safety requirements. The final BREEAM-NL handover certificate can only be requested and issued after the project is completed. However, the design certificate already demonstrates that a BREEAM-NL 3-star score can be attained and also serves as a requirement to be fulfilled by the contractor. A BREEAM-NL design certificate, including the burden of proof, thus forms a measurable performance requirement that can reasonably be demanded of the contractor in the specifications."

The project includes the new building of Eurojust, the European Judicial Network in The Hague. Eurojust has 28 national members who are seconded by each member state in accordance with its own legal system. In this building, they work together to combat cross-border crime. Within the design team, Royal HaskoningDHV provided extensive consultancy, including project management, technical advice, construction and maintenance costs, procurement and contract format. The compact team, short communication lines and excellent cooperation helped produce integrated solutions for optimal housing for Eurojust.

BREEAM-NL is the most widely used assessment method for determining the sustainability performance of buildings. As a founding partner of the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) and co-developer of BREEAM-NL commissioned by DGBC, Royal HaskoningDHV is closely involved with the latest developments relating to BREEAM certification. This knowledge is applied in our designs. We also have a team of qualified advisers who can support the entire LEED and BREEAM certification process at national and international levels.
