Royal HaskoningDHV has appointed Peter Boom as Director Rail Asset Management and Digitisation within its Transport & Planning business.

Peter has worked within the rail sector for over 25 years, with a key focus on asset management and driving efficiency gains through digital technology. In his new strategic role at Royal HaskoningDHV, he will lead the development of new digital services within the company’s rail business and work closely with our strategic clients to help bring us to the next phase of growth.

A central focus for the company, with Peter’s support, will be supporting clients in implementing the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS), the industry’s new security system set for adoption across Europe.

Anton van der Sanden, Director of Transport & Planning at Royal HaskoningDHV, said: “We’re delighted that Peter has joined our team. He brings extensive industry experience that complements our own, particularly as we turn our focus to new digital solutions for the rail industry. Peter has a clear vision to apply digital technology to boost asset availability and maintenance across the rail sector and, together, we look forward to working with our clients and partners to harness such opportunities.”

Commenting on his appointment, Peter Boom added: “I share Royal HaskoningDHV’s ambitions in driving the adoption of digital solutions within the rail sector – a market that has much to gain from improving its use of data. The company is well established both in rail and in digital innovation, which will help propel the industry to new levels of efficiency and interoperability.

"Rail is a sustainable mode of transport that is set to gain even greater significance as governments and local authorities strive to manage carbon emissions and transport congestion. I am excited to support Royal HaskoningDHV’s vision to enhance society, drawing on its experience across sectors and collaborating with our clients and partners to advance the rail industry.”

Peter joins Royal HaskoningDHV from railway technology provider Voestalpine. His previous roles include positions with rail operators NS and DB Cargo, Dekra Rail, Ricardo Rail and Sogeti.

His appointment follows the acquisition of Verebus Rail by Royal HaskoningDHV in August 2018, a key move for the company in strengthening its rail portfolio. Royal HaskoningDHV now has all four ProRail accreditations, enabling it to qualify for large, integrated projects. Royal HaskoningDHV has also been certified in achieving step 4 in the Dutch Safety Culture initiative ‘Veiligheidsladder’, as well as step 5 in the ‘CO2-Prestatieladder’.
