Royal HaskoningDHV has welcomed Mecana into the Nereda® community as its preferred supplier for filtration. Mecana manufactures pile cloth media filtration systems, which can be used as tertiary filtration processes, such as those following the Nereda technology.

Mecana has over 45 years’ experience in the development of tertiary filtration systems for solids removal. This is achieved using its patented OptiFiber® material which is applied at hundreds of sites across Europe and in the United States, including several existing Nereda plants. These filter units are manufactured ‘ready to install’ in Switzerland. Mecana is a subsidiary of the METAWATER Group alongside Aqua-Aerobic Systems, Inc (AASI), Nereda licensee for the North American market. Mecana also partners with key Nereda partners such as ELIQUO in the Netherlands and UK.

There are several important benefits of the Mecana system that align with the Nereda proposition of high-quality effluent through small footprint, environmentally conscious, and cost effective installations. The OptiFiber filtration cloth material is highly efficient at solids separation, can handle high throughput and is able to withstand shock loads. The configuration of the filters enables a small footprint and easy cloth replacement. Nereda and Mecana will work together on more integrated solutions for applications with aggressive nutrient and solids removal requirements.

“Mecana is a natural partner for our Nereda community. Key Nereda partners like ELIQUO and AASI have successful applications of Mecana filters on Nereda installations. Our preferred supplier collaboration will allow for Mecana to be further integrated into Nereda solutions across the world and for the development of applications for the reuse market.”
René Noppeney, Global Director Nereda

“We are happy to join the Nereda community and we are proud to be a preferred supplier for filtration for the Nereda system. Bringing two market leading technologies together offers so many advantages to our customers. The further integration of Mecana’s OptiFiber cloth filtration will allow even more sophisticated solutions in the future.”
Guido Schmucki, Mecana CEO
