Royal HaskoningDHV has become International Member of buildingSMART International to lead the development of global openBIM standards.

BuildingSMART is the worldwide authority driving the transformation of the built asset economy through a universal approach to creation and realization of open, international (BIM) standards. Complexity, coupled with a fast changing future means that collaboration is no longer ‘nice to have’ but essential to solving challenges ahead.

Jugal Makwana, Global Director Digital Engineering and Automation at Royal HaskoningDHV, said: "Open BIM standards are vital for efficient collaboration with clients, supply chains and wider contributors geared towards maintenance and development of the built environment. Using open, sharable asset information in the creation of civil infrastructure and buildings worldwide will help our industry to become more efficient and will lead to improvements in costs, value and environmental performance."

Richard Petrie, Chief Executive at buildingSMART International, said: It's great to have Royal HaskoningDHV on board. We are a self-supporting community driving the development and implementation of open BIM. Together we enable full benefits from digital ways of working in the built asset industry."

On the occasion of the international membership, Royal HaskoningDHV organised a small event with guest speakers including Richard Petrie (buildingSMART International), Alexander Worp (Schiphol), Maaike Beerepoot (Rijkswaterstaat), Dik Spekkink (BIM Loket) and Gerrie Mühren (Autodesk).
