The Dutch Water Authority Scheldstromen has announced its intention to convert the sewage treatment plant at Breskens to Nereda® technology. As well as replacing the plant, the amount of wastewater to be treated at the plant is set to increase.

Research revealed that replacing the purification system, increasing the capacity and constructing two new sewage pumping stations will be more cost effective and efficient than maintaining and renovating the two existing treatment installations at Groede and Breskens. The total cost of the project is €12.1 million.

Royal HaskoningDHV is responsible for the design, technology and start up of the new Breskens plant, scheduled to be commissioned in 2018.
